On... winter olympics - 1st post

After watching just about every Winter Olympic sport out there, I've decided that some of these sports are not in line with the ancient Olympic spirit. Frankly, I'm not sure why some of them are sports.
Two examples: snowboard half pipe and ski jump. When have you ever seen snow naturally fall into an open pipe formation? I'm pretty sure nowhere. Why, then, do snowboarders have to do tricks on the half pipe? Sure, it's based on skateboarding, but I don't get skateboarding either.
Now, ski jump is another ball of wax. Sure.. there are natural bumps in snow covered mountains where it makes sense to jump over, but I've never seen a hill quite like the one we'll see in Vancouver. The closest natural thing would be a
cliff. So basically, the athletes train to fall off cliffs with style.

Plus, I just read on wikipedia, which is of course the source of truth, that ancient olympic athletes competed in the nude. Can you imagine the South Korean short course skaters taking each other out on the ice in the nude? Ouch.
